SMCo STUDIO · v0.2

There used to be one handheld. Now there are two.
SMCo STUDIO · v0.2 Release
Two Devices on One Screen — And They Fight Each Other
Raise both the XA and XB versions of Digital Monster X at the same time. Stack them vertically to watch both at once, and connect them for a battle.
Two weeks ago v0.1 shipped with a note saying the next step was finishing the XA evolution tree and building a connect/battle menu so a digimon could travel between the XA and XB versions. v0.2 is that promise — except it turned out to be "at the same time" rather than "back and forth."
01First: there's a main screen now
v0.1 had no such thing — it booted straight into the one device. With two devices there has to be a place to choose which one you're stepping into, and that's the main screen; it comes up right after the studio logo. Arrows page through the shells, the nameplate at the bottom confirms one, and the top row holds settings, EXPAND, the shop, and your DigiCore balance. During play, the lock button (Esc) brings it back at any time. The best part: the LCDs you see here aren't stills. The shrunken screen in the carousel is the device's real, running screen — and so is the one half off the edge.
02Both devices, both alive
XA and XB are fully independent handhelds. Separate digimon, clock, dex, items, battle record, backup slots — and the one you aren't looking at keeps living in real time. It's like leaving two real devices on a desk: while you're watching XB, the XA digimon still gets hungry, still poops, still gets sleepy at night. Each device runs its own power-on ceremony (DIGIMONX logo + clock setup) the first time you start it.
03EXPAND — stack them
EXPAND on the main screen doubles the window's height and puts the two devices one above the other. You control one at a time — tap the other device's screen, or press TAB. The active shell's border flashes white twice when it switches, so you always know which one you're touching. On Android the screen rotates to portrait while expanded, and picture-in-picture (back gesture) shows both screens too.
04Connect battle
Menu slot 9 (BATTLE) works for real now. Pick X on both devices, play through the BATTLE XAI and the minigame on each, and both land on a waiting screen with BATTLE blinking. Press B on either one and they link. Both screens draw the same fight from their own point of view — your digimon on the right, the opponent on the left. Winning records the battle and unlocks half the condition for the hidden SP area; losing carries a 20% chance of injury.
05One shell to start — DigiCore and the shop
On a fresh start you pick one of XA or XB and begin with that one. The other shell is bought with DigiCore, an account-level currency earned on every evolution by the stage reached: Baby 1, Child 2, Adult 3, Perfect 5, Ultimate 10, Super Ultimate 15. Hatching counts as an evolution, so it starts accumulating the moment the egg cracks. A shell costs 100. The reward animation slides a chip through the top-right of the window itself, not the LCD.
06And it isn't dead every time you come back
This was the most common complaint about v0.1. The game replays every second the app was closed, exactly like the real device — so skipping a day or two really did mean coming back to a starved digimon. v0.2 adds a close option, defaulting to "cold": however you quit, both devices freeze and no time passes while the app is off. Turn it back on and wake it with menu 6 (ON). Prefer the real-device behavior? Switch it to SHUT DOWN in SETTING.
Also in this build: notifications now fire only while the LCD's call icon is actually lit (10 minutes for hunger/strength/sickness/injury, 30 for sleepiness) instead of nagging forever; when the device you aren't watching calls, its shell leaps up over the current one; waking the PC from sleep now catches up on the elapsed time (it used to count as 0.14 seconds); the monitor's own sleep timer works again while the game runs; and on Android, notifications vibrate, use exact alarms, and stay quiet while you're looking at the app.
Windows and Android ship together in one archive
Download →Unzip it and you get the Windows executable, the dll that must sit beside it, and the Android APK. On Windows keep the exe and the dll in the same folder; on Android copy the APK to the device and install it.
07Good to know
- v0.1 saves load as-is — a device you were already raising grants you that shell (DigiCore starts at 0). There's no going back, though: once v0.2 saves, v0.1 can't read the file.
- OTHER in the connect menu (linking to other Digital Monster series) only shows the waiting screen — no other series exists in this project yet.
- The branches into Dukemon X are still locked behind the SP area, which needs a connect-battle win and area 30 cleared.
- On Android, add the app to "Never sleeping apps" (Galaxy) or set battery use to "Unrestricted" so the OS doesn't batch notifications by up to 9 minutes.
- Some numbers (item effect amounts, per-stage hit-rate bonuses) are still estimates — the official manual never states them.
08What's next
Moving an account between PC and mobile, and actually opening the SP area so the path to Dukemon X exists. The devlog will keep covering the process.
